If you don’t clean your dishwasher every once in a while, leftover food and soap scum will slowly build up which will significantly reduce your dishwasher’s performance.

Here are a few tips that’ll help keep your dishwasher in tip-top shape so that your dishes will come out sparkly clean:

Preheat

Run the hot water tap for a minute before you run the dishwasher so that the first bit of water to hit your dishes is warm instead of cold.

Get Rid of Gunk

Clean the filter to get rid of caked-on food and other debris as it will help your dishwasher drain the dirty water and improve cleanliness.

Clean Up

Pour a cup of white vinegar into your dishwasher before running an empty load on a hot cycle to wash away grease, grime and calcium deposits.

Freshen Up

Sprinkle a cup of baking soda along the bottom of your dishwasher before running it on a short, hot cycle to help get rid of any foul odours.

Air Dry

You’ll save on electricity costs if you air-dry your dishes plus, it’ll prolong the life of your racks and cutlery baskets as excessive heat wears them out over time.

Just like anything else, your dishwasher needs to be properly maintained in order to perform at its best. If you follow these tips, your dishwasher will run more efficiently which will extend its lifespan and your dishes will be extra clean!
