The Pipe Dream of Perfection

Progress starts the moment you let go of perfection and take that first step!

Winston Churchill famously said, “Perfectionism is the enemy of progress,” and he couldn’t have been more right. Striving for perfection often leads to procrastination, leaving tasks incomplete and goals out of reach.

The truth is, perfection doesn’t exist. The key is to just give your best effort and always move forward.

I’ve experienced this firsthand. When I wanted to add a video feature to my newsletter, I kept delaying with an endless list of excuses. I told myself I needed a green screen, a better microphone and perfect conditions.

Months passed before I finally released my first video. It wasn’t award-winning by any means, but it was a start and gave me a foundation that I could build on.

If a goal feels like it’s taking forever, ask yourself if the real reason is fear. Fear of imperfection, or maybe the fear of looking foolish. Or perhaps both?

That’s exactly what held me back. But I eventually realized that starting, even if the video was far from perfect, was better than hiding behind lame excuses with nothing to show for it.

Taking action is the cornerstone of success. Whether your goal is to grow your social media presence, launch a new project or improve a skill, progress trumps perfection every time! Post the content, launch the idea—don’t wait for “perfect” to arrive because it never will.

You have what it takes to succeed, but you must be willing to step outside your comfort zone and embrace the inevitability of mistakes. By focusing on progress instead of perfection, you’ll unlock greater productivity and success than you ever imagined!
